For the following Medicine Buddha Healing Visualisation practise, keep a journal of the insights/revelations that come out of this practice and incorporate them into your daily life. Ideally this practise should be done in full three times a day (it takes about 25-30 minutes, including updating your journal for that session).
Your ability to visualise will improve with practise, so just keep working with it.
Find a place where you will not be disturbed for the duration of the practice. Find a place that is comfortable and warm and that is not having a draft.
It is ideal to do this practice before taking a meal, rather than immediately after taking a meal.
To begin the practice, sit comfortably with your spine straight (you many need to adjust your shoulders, head and neck so that this position is comfortable).
Close your eyes. Breathe in through the nose allowing the breath to go down and expand your diaphragm so that the breath is deep. Hold the breath for a moment then gently exhale as much air as possible. Repeat this breathing for two more breaths then allow your breathing to become slow and rhythmic.
Using your mind visualised before you Medicine Buddha.
Medicine Buddha has skin the colour of lapis lazuli and is seated on the lotus throne in full lotus posture. Medicine Buddha has bright and loving eyes and his smile is gentle and kind. His right hand is in the mudra of giving blessing and he is left hand is holding a bowl of medicine. The medicine is gold in colour. In Medicine Buddha’s heart chakra is a golden pearl swastika. This swastika is left handed (as in picture below) and turning clockwise. This swastika represents the turning of the Dharma Wheel, happiness and loving kindness.
Allow your awareness to remain focused on the turning of the swastika in the heart of the Medicine Buddha. Observe as the swastika begins to turn faster and faster and begins to glow brighter and brighter. Observe that the swastika begins to radiate rainbow light. Each colour is distinct and vibrant.
This rainbow light extends from Medicine Buddha to your own heart chakra. Allow the rainbow light to connect to your heart chakra and allow this rainbow light to enter and fill your heart chakra. Feel your heart chakra blossom and become full and expanded.
When your heart chakra is fully blossomed, feel the rainbow light radiate from your heart to the rest of your body. Allow the rainbow light to gentle flow and fill every part of your body.
Remaining aware of the rainbow light in your body, turn your awareness to the swastika turning in the heart chakra of Medicine Buddha. Observe how it turns even faster and see all the colours blend into each other until the light radiating from the swastika is brilliant white. Feel this brilliant white light extend from Medicine Buddha into your heart chakra and flowing into the rest of your body.
You are now connected to the full healing light of Medicine Buddha. Allow yourself to rest in this light for a while and allow your healing to take its course.
Remaining aware of the brilliant light in your body, turn your awareness to the face of Medicine Buddha. Bring to your mind a question, issue or problem you are currently facing and request teaching to help you resolve this particular suffering. Allow yourself to become receptive, listening and accept the teaching (it might be a new perspective, something to do or let go, whatever it is accept it with gratitude).
Remaining aware of the brilliant light in your body, direct with your mind and from your heart, gratitude to Medicine Buddha for the teaching and healing given to you. Observe that the swastika in the heart chakra of Medicine Buddha is now turning with a golden pearl colour (as in the beginning). Allow the light in your body to draw back into your heart chakra as you see Medicine Buddha smiling at you. This light and healing now resides in you.
Turn your awareness to your breathing and become aware of your body and its sitting posture. Become aware of the room and when you are ready open your eyes.
Write in your journal the teachings/insights/information given to you and you may also note details about your experience for that session.
The practise is now finished.
